Sumol: Mantém-te Original
A few years ago, Sumol, a Portuguese soda brand, launched a campaign that, to me, was poetic about what change changes in us. Being in Portugal and seeing the new campaign, I was reminded of this one.
One day the most likely thing to happen is that you will become boring; that you will stop going out for a night in the town and that you start taking yourself too seriously. That day you will start wearing beige and grey, you will ask people keep the volume down and you will let your guitar be covered in dust. You will become politically correct, socially evolved and economically sensitive. You will think that you should go where everyone else is going and you will believe you have to wear a suit every single day of your life. That day you will stop kissing in public, your trips will be from your couch seat, you will sleep in more instead of out. It is official, you will have entered the slippers age and you will stop being who you were until that day. You will stop sitting on your friends lap, you will forget all the children games you used to play. You will get all edgy if you cannot switch cars every four years and you will lose your temper if the hotel does not have the perfect towels for your delicate skin. You will become a grown-up and start to worry about all things and no things and you will not do anything because “that’s life” and you are just “going along”. You will say no more often. You will be afraid. You will think you can’t, you shouldn’t and you will feel embarrassed all the time. You will be sadder. That day it is also likely that you will stop drinking sodas. This is what we suggest: when that day comes, ignore it! Stay original!
